Shameless Self-Promotion: NAF Conference

Every year, the National Ataxia Foundation hosts a conference geared toward, well, living with Ataxia.  Not only does it provide current, priceless information to those affected by this disease, but it’s an amazing networking opportunity as well.

For the past 64 years, various cities have played host to the Annual Ataxia Conference. From Vegas to Denver to Pittsburgh, people have traveled far and wide to learn more about handling their rare condition.

However, this time it’s 100% online  – making it fully accessible to the global community.

Despite being on my Bucket List for the past five years, this will be the first AAC I actually “attend.” The lure of hearing researchers alongside countless individuals with the same rare disease I have still couldn’t surpass the cost/timing/planning/anxiety-inducing travel that was required.

So, the fact that the 2021 Conference is completely virtual is quite possibly the only positive result of the Covid pandemic.

It’s four days of immersive experiences, filled with presentations on developing treatments, standards of care, and plenty of opportunities to connect with other attendees.  I am so excited to be completely immersed in a society that fully understands what I’m going through, all while sitting on my couch.

Plus I’m one of the speakers for this year’s event, sooo…

Personally, I’m presenting during the “Family Planning” session on March 11. I get to share my experience with IVF & PGD while helping others learn about available opportunities and participate in a Q&A forum.

But with sessions ranging from “Navigating the Diagnostic Journey” to “Cognition Research” to “Singles with Ataxia” there really is something for everyone.

You can (and should) find more information by visiting the NAF website, with specific AAC details HERE, including a schedule, session titles, and a list of speakers. The Conference is held from March 10-13, 2021 and costs $50 for full, four-day access.

And nope, I did not get paid to write this – I just genuinely want to “see” you there!
