The Dangers of (re)Imagination

Despite no longer teaching, when Gov. Cuomo announced that NYS school buildings would remain closed for the rest of this academic year, it broke my heart. I can’t imagine just leaving my classroom one Friday and then, kind of out of nowhere, not returning. I had months of preparation to deal with my resignation last year, and it was still unbelievably difficult.

Everyone’s Doing It: My COVID-19 Plea

I really had every intention of posting a cute Easter picture of my baby last Sunday.

But then I got sad because his first holiday couldn’t be spent with family. And then I got mad because people were shamelessly posting pictures of themselves doing the very thing I was upset about. And then I got frustrated because the result of their selfishness is that my kid’s next holiday might be spent the same way.

GUEST POST: Love is Not a Pile of Oranges

All (good) parents know, as Megan is finding out, love is one of life’s greatest paradoxes. As in, the more you give, the more you have.

Which is different than if I had a pile of oranges – or in these coronavirus times, rolls of toilet paper. If I chose to give away my oranges  – or my rolls of toilet paper – every time I give one away, I would have less for myself.
